CFC Dallas Beginning
All beginnings and its history has its places in people’s hearts and minds. Couples for Christ in Dallas started when Bro. Ed and Sis.Myrna Encarnacion made the first contact with CFC National Coordinator Bro. Lito Urgino thru the introduction of a friend from Chicago Illinois, Joe Tigtig. Joe sent a video of CLP seminar to Myrna & Ed in introducing CFC to friends, prayer groups and eventually to Father Flori of St. Philip Catholic Church.
With the approval of Father Flori,
a series of Christian Family Life seminar was conducted by Brother Lito
and Sister Edith on November 7, 8 and 9, 1994 at St. Philip's
cafeteria.
The seminar was well-attended and received that the foundation was laid
for CFC in Dallas. The success of the first seminars inspired Brother
Ed and Sister Myrna for a follow up and thus the start of very first
Christian Life Program (CLP) happened on three consecutive CLP
Saturdays from January 7, 14 and 21 of year 1995. At that time, since
there were no CFC members yet, a prayer group from St. Philip
volunteered to serve as service team for the facilitation of the CLP;
and it was headed by Bro. Joe & Sis. Eva Escamilla.
At the completion of the CLP, 1 household was
formed in February 5, 1995
after dedicating 5 couples and 3 handmaid: Ed and Myrna Encarnacion, Al
and Helen Lopez,
Ed and Elena Pineda, Junior and Kelly Briceno, Cecil and Ester Briceno;
handmaids were,
Jane Utes-Fira, Teresa Longoria and Olga Salinas. Bro. Al and Sis.
Helen Lopez served
as the very 1st household head/servant of CFC-Dallas. Brother Al Lopez
heeded the call of
the Lord for his life to become a Deacon of Divine Mercy Catholic
Church in Mesquite. 4 couples from the newly-formed
CFC Dallas household attended their 1st Marriage Enrichment Retreat on
Jan. 15 & 16 of 1995 in Glenrose, Texas at the Hummingbird Inn.
A year of formation and development of the
first CFC household passed, while the youth were "etching" to be
formed. After attending the youth camp retreat on one cold winter month
of 1996 in Chicago, the Alamo brothers, Gerard and Kenneth, along with
Ronald Encarnacion came back to Dallas filled with the Holy Spirit.
They were so much on fire that they started planning for the area’s
first CFC youth camp at camp Summit with the guidance of Tito Ed and
Tita Myrna Encarnacion, who later became the 1st CFC YFC Ministry
Coordinators. The first Youth for Christ camp retreat dedicated 30
youths on March 17, 1996. Gerard Alamo was the first lead servant or
Unit Head of the CFC-YFC Dallas. Patrick Urgino, from California, with
Angelo Banaria, from New Jersey, leading the youth camp retreat in Camp
Summit. They were assisted by Mark & Meg Coloso and the Alamo
brothers. KFC was formed immediately in
October 1996 when the CFC Dallas became a Unit (4 or more CFC household
groups). Planning and formation of KFC occurred at the home of with
Bro. Jack and Sis. Lita Walker who eventually served as the area’s 1st
CFC KFC ministry coordinators. The 1st
CFC KFC Kids Camp happened in October 1996 at Mt. Lebanon where almost
24 kids joining this ministry which were coordinated by the next parent
coordinators, Bro. Aniel and Sis. Ging.
Formation of the Single for Christ followed
as well and the 1st SFC CLP started at the house of Jim and Vivian
Abalos in the spring of 1997. Bro. Jim and Sis. Vivian were soon
anointed as the first CFC ministry servants or coordinators of the
